An improved method for the production of biogenic silica from cornhusk using sol–gel polymeric route

Abstract Porous silica was synthesized from cornhusk using the sol–gel polymeric route and compared with ash obtained direct combustion process under laboratory conditions. The unmodified dissolved in NaOH for 1 h to form sodium silicate, which subsequently hydrolyzed citric acid yield a xerogel. xerogel characterized inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermal analysis (STA), gas sorption techniques determine their elemental constituents, functional groups, crystalline phases, stability, porosity, respectively. results showed that exhibited porous network structures high-specific surface area mesopore volume of 384 m 2 /g 0.35 cm 3 /g, pore size distribution revealed complete transformation monomodal bimodal system, micro- peaks centered around 1.5 3.8 nm, ICP-OES content significantly increased 52.93 91.96 wt.% db after treatment. XRD confirmed amorphicity particles extraction method. In addition, STA data has high stability ash, as latter poor low textural properties. narrow cavity make it an ideal substrate catalysts excellent template growing other nanoparticles within pores.
